A week after the murders rocked the small college town of about 26,000 people, investigators have yet to identify a suspect or find the deadly weapon used in the horrific attack.

"We're trying to expedite anything that could lead to a suspect," Latta County District Attorney Bill Thompson told reporters. "I hope we have more answers and (detectives) are still asking questions."

As the investigation continues, here's what we know -- and still don't.

How the physical struggle unfolded remains unclear

The killings of the four victims were ruled stabbings, according to Latta County Coroner Cathy Mabbutt. Among the victims, "some suffered defensive injuries," Moscow police said in an update on Friday.

But it's unclear how many or which victims suffered defensive injuries.

Earlier this week, Xana Kernodle's father revealed his daughter fought her attackers to the end.

"Bruised, torn with a knife. He was a tough kid," Jeffrey Knodel saidCNN Affiliate KPHO/KTVKin Avondale, Arizona.

When Mabbutt arrived at the crime scene, she told CNN she saw "a lot of blood on the wall."

Each victim was stabbed multiple times — likely with the same weapon, Mabbutt said, but did not specify how many wounds were there or where most of them were located.

Moscow police also stressed on Friday that the victim was not "bound and gagged" during the attack. An autopsy of the victim found no signs of sexual assault, Mabbutt said.

Entry method, weapon or question mark

When officers arrived at the home after a 911 call, the door was open and there was no damage inside, Moscow Police Chief James Frye said. He said there was no evidence of forced entry.

According to Jeffrey Kernodle, one of the doors used to enter the house had a keypad lock that required a combination to get in.

Alivea Goncalves - Goncalves' sister - points out that the residence is called "The Party House" and has been around for a while.

"So I wouldn't say they're very secretive about these codes," Gonsalves told ABC World News tonight.

The home also has a sliding door that can be used to access theKPHO/KTVK.

Police have yet to identify the deadly weapon that was used due to a lack of suspect identification.

To do this, the researchers asked local businesses about recent purchases of "fixed knives." Moscow police did not provide further information on those details.

To get a tip from the community, investigators on Friday released a map and timeline of the victim's movements over the past weekend. The map showed that the four students spent most of the night in two pairs.

Chapin and Kernodle attended the Sigma Chi fraternity house party from 8pm onwards. Until 9pm local time Saturday.

Surviving roommate may be 'key to whole thing'

Two other roommates were at home at the time of the attack and were found unhurt, Frye said earlier this week. Moscow police "do not believe" that two surviving roommates or a man seen on food truck surveillance video were involved in the crime, the department said Friday.

Aaron Snell, director of communications for the Idaho State Police, told ABC News that the surviving roommate could provide some important leads in the investigation.

"They could be witnesses, they could be victims," ​​Snell told ABC's Keena Whitworth. "Probably the key to the whole thing."

Authorities wanted the roommate to help them "figure out what happened and why," Snell said.

"It's the story they want to tell," he said. "No one is considered to be included or excluded as persons of interest and/or suspects. Everything is still under investigation," he said.

38 interviews conducted so far

Police said they received a 911 call around noon Sunday about a person unconscious at the home. The caller is unknown.

Moscow police said that by late Friday afternoon, investigators had completed 38 interviews with people "who may have information about the killings."

Authorities also confiscated items from three trash cans near the residence to check for possible evidence, police said Friday. No further search updates were disclosed.

Detectives were grappling with nearly 500 reports received as of late Friday afternoon, police added. The Moscow Police Department is leading the investigation, assisted by the Idaho State Police, the FBI and the Latta County Sheriff's Office.

On November 13, four University of Idaho students were found stabbed to death in their home near the Moscow, Idaho campus.

Light a candle, turn on the stadium lights, or join us as we unite on campus A moment of silence is observed," the university said. The vigil will be held after the Thanksgiving break to allow more people the opportunity to attend.

University of Idaho President Scott Green issued a memo Thursday urging students to take the best course of action as the university community deals with the killing.

"We need to be flexible this week and give our students and colleagues the space to deal with these unprecedented events in their own way," Green said. "Students, we encourage you to do what works for you. Whether it's going home early or staying in class, you'll have our support."
